Tired of all the headlines of banks going belly up?
Interested in taking control (of rising energy costs) into your own hands?
Have personal sustainability goals and are looking for actionable, measurable steps you can take now?
I previously wrote about our journey to residential application of solar energy that we’d started seriously researching in 2013, culminating in a deployment in 2015 (with various updates to charts over the years).
(Shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to add ourselves to the statistic of families relocating and adjusting to new realities, yet sustainability has continued to be top of mind)
Today I’m thrilled to share some exciting news !
Just heard the news from SunPower that they’ve secured PTO (Permission to Operate) from the local utility company at our new place! So we’ve settled in a new home, in a suburb outside NYC — and would you like to know what one of my initial questions (to self) was?
“When are we going to #gosolar, here, too?”
Well, I’ll have more on our second journey soon. For now I am thrilled to share today’s the day we got lit up. Its just after 5pm here, and some quick math (2 kW/5.7 kW) is telling me our panel configuration is giving 35% back to the grid at this hour !!
Taking a closer look at the mySunPower app, I was able to scroll back to the time shortly after PTO gets reflected. Notice solar production jumps from 0, and see what happens to energy being imported from, and then exported to, the grid.
What’s a good question to ask the following day?
“Can we see how it performs around high noon?” 45% back to the grid? You’re welcome.
(yes, these numbers fluctuate throughout the day, yet someone, please, help me lift my jaw off the floor …)
